Michigan's Children is an advocacy group for kids. Their "Budget Basics for Child and Family Advocates" has, in my opinion, an excellent summation of the problems facing the state. In addition, they have pointed out in their report issues that impact Michigan's children and families, not only in K-12 and pre-school but in other social service areas that assist kids and families especially the more vulnerable.
All or a portion of this report may be valuable in helping you to explain to your community the budget problems that we all face.
