Futures Summit: Delivering Education in a Budget Crisis

At a board retreat Friday, Superintendent Bernard Taylor (of the Grand Rapids Public Schools) announced a public presentation Nov. 21 at Ottawa Hills High School on how the state's revenue shortfall will impact schools over the next two years.

According to an article in the Grand Rapids Press:

"Michigan school districts are feeling intense budget pressures, but those forces are fierce in Grand Rapids Public Schools, which has cut $65 million from its budget over the last decade.

The district has closed or consolidated 20 schools, cut hundreds of jobs and contracted with private companies to provide transportation and substitute teachers."
