OK, now I see why legislators run for the hills when the issue of raising taxes comes up.
In today's Detroit Free Press there is an article concerning A Better Michigan Future's call for raising taxes to help balance the State's budget. According to the article, A Better Michigan Future is a new coalition of education, labor, and social service agencies. The group includes the teacher's unions the MEA and MFT, Michigan League for Human Services, and other organizations.
Similar articles about their call for more taxes are in the Grand Rapids Press and Lansing State Journal.
What I find interesting is that accompanying the Free Press article are over 540 comments that readers have entered to express their opinion about the article.
An article concerning more schools having "A's" on their annual report cards has 9 comments. An article concerning Speaker Dillon's health care reform proposal possibly saving as much as $1 billion has about 45 comments.
So, I guess an article with the words "tax" and "raise" or "increase" in its title catches some folks' attention. Ever been in a millage campaign? I guess I should not be surprised.
